Campaign Introduction

The world has never been a safe place. Bastions of civilization populate a dark, menacing world – islands of order and reason exist in a land otherwise overrun by dark cults, vile monsters, bizarre abominations, and worse. As deadly as the world is on a normal day, something has begun to stir on the fringes of the civilized Elsir Vale.

Ten years ago, the Vale was the site of an invasion by a massive army known as the Red Hand of Doom. The army, composed of goblinoids, giants, and dragonborn, would have crushed every settlement across the region, had a heroic team of adventurers not disrupted its advance and sent its remnants scurrying back into the darkness.

With peace restored in the Vale, the people turned their attention back to daily life. Though some called for the remnants of the Red Hand to be chased down and permanently eliminated, the invaders left little behind to go on, and few had the time for such an endeavor. As time marched on, trails grew cold and people grew complacent. A decade of peace and prosperity blinded the population to the possibility of a new threat growing in the darkness beyond their borders. Now, a vague shadow of unease has cast itself over the town of Brindol – a sense that something is waiting for a moment of weakness to strike. Indeed, complacency breeds opportunity, and the Elsir Vale will soon find itself in need of brave heroes once again…
